I was buried under an avalanche of NaNoWriMo words last week and thus failed to get a Would You Rather…? question of the week ready to present to you fine people. A thousand apologies for that oversight. I hope each of you found decent, respectable ways to entertain your brain while patiently waiting for Wednesday to come ’round again.
This week I hope to make amends byย getting right to the question AND byย giving y’all not just two, but THREE OPTIONS for your pondering pleasure.
It’s o.k. to take a moment to pull your excited self together. This week’s question will require some focus, so it’s best to take a deep breath, put on some comfy clothes, and perhaps take this opportunity to review your cats’ Customer Comment Cards on which they’ve informed you that their snuggling schedules have changed to 3-4am to accommodate their increased work load of knocking ornaments off the tree, so would you please take this into account when selfishly choosing to sleep during that hour.

P.S. We seem to be fresh out of Customer Comment Cards. Time to restock those bad boys.
Maybe your cats do not fill out Customer Comment Cards, in which case you should just sit by a cozy fire while enjoying a delicious dessert or a refreshing beverage.
And now, on to this week’s question:
On your much-anticipated skiing trip (or sledding adventure, if that is more your speed), would you rather have as your companion:
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer,
Clarence the Angel,

or
Buddy the Elf?

So, intelligent readers, who will be the lucky character to accompany you for some fun in the snow? Give it some thought, make a pro/con list, have another beverage or two, and share your answer below. As always, I love hearing from all of you and reading your clever comments.
Rudolph, FTW!
He’s like a hybrid of the other two: goofy & good. And I’d never get lost.
Good point, Liv! He is a perfect blend of the other two. And that glowing red nose is practically like a GPS device. ๐
Buddy the Elf. Defintely. I love him.
I love Buddy, too. What’s not to love about someone who likes to smile and eat cookie dough?
That Rudolph cartoon has been the thorn in my Christmas for as long as I can remember. Clarence is black and white and sometimes, life needs more colour. Buddy? Whoa. Tres intensimondo. But, if the horse runs out of oats, or the snowmobile out of gas, or the sled out of slide, I can use Buddy’s energy to get me home.
A thorn, you say? I think that needs further explanation. I think what I love most about these Would You Rather questions is the thought processes everyone goes through to get to their answer and then getting to read about it here. Buddy makes total sense if you want color and an abundance of energy. Good thinkin’!
I have to admit my ignorance of Buddy the Elf (*gasp*). And while I love Rudolf and Clarence, Angel, Second Class, I have to write in my choice of companion for a snowy winter adventure. Hands down I choose Annabelle the cow from the mid ’90s movie “Annabelle’s Wish”.
Hold. The. Phone. Unfamiliar with Buddy the Elf?!? Oh, Elizabeth. You must rectify that ASAP. You are missing out on one of the BEST holiday comedies EVER. Seriously. Go. Now. Watch. Then come back here. If you must stick to your write in answer then, I’ll accept it then and only then. ๐
Rudy wins for me….light, bright and fun!
That’s some solid logic there, Marcia. Can’t argue with light, bright, and fun. ๐
Clarence would keep me from getting into trouble (take the safe and sensible route).
Rudy would get me out of trouble (his ‘nose so bright’ would lead the rescue team to us).
Buddy would make getting into trouble inevitable…and fun.
I vote for Buddy.
I like how you think, Erica. Buddy would get you into trouble, but with a smile and some Christmas cheer in the form of a song that’s sung loudly for all to hear. Surely, that would get you two off the hook with the authorities. ๐
Of those, I’m only familiar with Rudolph — don’t know the other two at all! And it’s hot here, so I don’t think a ski or sledding trip is gonna happen… hmm. Is this a trick question?
Clarence is from the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” ~ you have to see it. It’s a wonderful movie ~ it says so right in the title ๐
It is only a trick question for those in the southern hemisphere. ๐
Like Kim said, Clarence is the goofy, awkward angel in It’s a Wonderful Life with Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed. I love that movie. Watch it every December. Elf is, IMO, a really funny comedy about a human boy, Buddy, who was raised by elves but then realizes as an adult (played by Will Ferrell) he’s not really an elf after all. He goes in search of his real father (a ruthless book publisher) in NYC. Hijinks ensue. I’ve watched it dozens of times and I still laugh as much as I did the first time. Sorry for the overly American-centric question! I didn’t stop to think that maybe some of these movies weren’t as well-known or beloved in other parts of the world. (I’ll remove some of my own bonus points off the wall here for that.) ๐
Don’t worry too much – I have *heard* of both movies, now that you mention them, but haven’t seen either ๐
I’d recommend watching them if you get the chance. ๐
Okay, here’s my take:
Rudolf would just fly above me, leaving me to ski and fall all by myself ~ so he’s out.
I couldn’t imagine Clarence on skis and, if he were to get on skis, I fear I would be rescuing him all the time ’cause he’s just a man-baby angel guy.
So, by process of elimination, I choose Buddy the Elf. He would ski with me and he loves to laugh and smile, so we would have a blast!
A well thought out answer, Kim. By your logic, Buddy does seem the best fit for having fun on the slopes. He would certainly be entertaining. Just keep him away from the racoons. ๐
