It’s time to strike out into the wide open space of the web on our weekly road trip to the blogs you may have missed and should definitely check out. I hope you brought some chips with you this time because I’m totally craving some right now…

Kristen Lamb beseeches the NYC’s Big 6 publishing companies to make a better game plan to avoid the demise that the music and film industries have gone through because they failed to plan to be a part of the digital age. She so wisely reminds us all that “history repeats itself because we fail to listen” and that “Whining is not a plan. Avoiding and complaining is not a strategy.” Good advice not just for the Big 6, but for everyone, don’t ya think?

If you are considering writing short stories for submission to a contest, Cora Ramos has some great advice and links to help you navigate your way to winning.

And speaking of winning contests, over at National Geographic and the Matador Network, you can become the Next Great Storyteller. Submit your own travel blog story, magazine article, video, or photo essay for a chance to win an invitation to “Storytellers’ Day” with the National Geographic Traveler editorial staff at National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, DC. (airfare and one night’s stay in a hotel paid for by NGS).

Nomadic Matt reminds us that a vacation doesn’t have to cost a lot with his 8 Great Alternative Vacation Ideas

YA novelist, Nova Ren Suma has been doing an inspirational guest series on her blog about authors’ turning points in their careers as writers. Lena Roy (granddaughter of Madeleine L’Engel) is the guest in this post about finding your voice as a writer as well as stepping up and owning the title of writer.

How about you, dear readers? What has been a turning point in your life? What has been that pivotal thing that got you doing what you love most? I’d love to hear about it. While you’re sharing, have a listen to this week’s road trip tune – many thanks to Liv Rancourt (check out her fabulous blog here) for suggesting it!
